This certificate recognizes my completion of a sexual assault resistance course course I took during my first undergraduate degree. This certificate reflects my strong value of sexual safety and security among all people. I have strived to develop a level of strength and understanding in this area so that I can be of help to others. This certificate is important to me as a teacher, because I believe this course will help me understand how to pay attention to students' health and recognize the warning signs of sexual assault and/or abuse so that I may be of assistance to students and staff members should they need it.
The Collaborating for Learning Conference in 2013 was the 1st annual University of Calgary conference on post-secondary teaching and learning presented by the teaching and learning centre. I presented in this conference as a peer mentor giving quantitative evidence of increased student engagement due to the peer mentoring program as well as my experience as a peer mentor and how mentoring enriched my undergraduate experience. The write-up in the second image gives a more thorough explanation of the peer mentoring program and our conference presentation.
I received a second place award among all University of Calgary independent study Ecology students for my honours thesis presentation titled “Math and Biology: Promoting Quantitative Skills in Undergraduate Biology Students”. My presentation was based on the research I conducted throughout the year on students’ quantitative skills and how they can relate those skills to biological concepts. For my research, I used triangulation of data from statistical pre-instruction/post-instruction testing, students’ self-assessed non-cognitive traits, and a focus group which I conducted, to reach a conclusion about the pedagogy of incorporating mathematics in biology. This award shows my understanding of pedagogical research, statistical analysis, and my presentation skills. |
