GOAL 1
Allow and encourage flexible learning for students. This includes flexibility in timeframes and assessment. Rationale: All students can learn, but it may be in different ways and at different rates. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to accommodate for students to maximize the amount of learning that each individual student accomplish. |
Have discussions with students early on about their own learning goals and specific learning strategies that work best for them.
Have a discussion with students about what flexible learning looks like and how they can be successful. Keep track of students progress using appropriate documentation. Have students partake in activities used to determine the type of learner they are (ex. multiple intelligences test, learning modalities, etc.) Give students choice in how they will be assessed. |
Students will be aware that their learning is flexible and take control of their own learning needs.
Students will be at different stages in their learning. Students will be aware of the type of learner they are and know what they need in order to be successful Assessments will look different for different students. |
GOAL 2
Integrate technology effectively and seamlessly into my teaching, the student's learning, and assessment. Rationale: Helping students become digital citizens and users of technology is important for their success in this ever-changing world. Modeling the appropriate use of technology and allowing students to use technology will help them succeed. |
Have discussions with classes about digital citizenship often to continue the dialogue about proper use of technology.
Encourage students to bring their own devices to class to help them with their learning. Test technology before-hand to avoid having technological difficulties interrupt the flow of the class. Research areas in which technology can be integrated into science teaching. Teach specifically about the advances of technology and how it has helped scientists. |
Computers and other personal devices will be used in the classroom by students to enhance their learning through research, spell-checker, projects, and as a writing aid.
Students will participate in class discussion that is facilitated through technology-based presentations. Cell-phones and other personal devices will not become a distractor for students and they will use their devices appropriately. Students will gain an appreciation for technology and its impact on science. |
GOAL 3
Develop relationships with students and staff members. Rationale: I have a strong belief that relationships are incredibly important for the success of a high school student. It is very difficult to learn from someone you don't like. I care about all of my students and I want to make it abundantly clear that I do. |
Develop a system to remember students' and staff members' names as soon as possible.
Spend time in my classroom and in the halls at lunch and during break times to have more informal conversations with students. Coach a sports team to develop relationships with students outside my science class and grade level. Partake in staff team-building activities and events. |
Staff members will feel comfortable having conversations with me outside of the confines of "teacher-talk"
Students and staff will feel comfortable asking me for help. I will know more about students than just their grades. I will be able to use my connections with students for classroom management. I will know the names of staff and students outside of the subjects that I teach. |
