This certificate recognizes my completion of a sexual assault resistance course course I took during my first undergraduate degree. This certificate reflects my strong value of sexual safety and security among all people. I have strived to develop a level of strength and understanding in this area so that I can be of help to others. This certificate is important to me as a teacher, because I believe this course will help me understand how to pay attention to students' health and recognize the warning signs of sexual assault and/or abuse so that I may be of assistance to students and staff members should they need it.
The Collaborating for Learning Conference in 2013 was the 1st annual University of Calgary conference on post-secondary teaching and learning presented by the teaching and learning centre. I presented in this conference as a peer mentor giving quantitative evidence of increased student engagement due to the peer mentoring program as well as my experience as a peer mentor and how mentoring enriched my undergraduate experience. The write-up in the second image gives a more thorough explanation of the peer mentoring program and our conference presentation.
In the summer after the first year of my first undergraduate degree, I got the opportunity to work in a lab for an ecology professor, Dr. Jeremy Fox. I spent the summer perfecting my skills with a microscope while I analysed the predator-prey cycles of protists (free-swimming single-celled organisms). After a summer of research, I helped co-author this paper, presented here, which was published in the peer-reviewed journal, PLoS ONE. This publication demonstrates my knowledge in the field of ecology as well as my technical lab skills. |
Beyond the ClassroomThe purpose of this page is to demonstrate my growth as a professional as well as to document my accomplishments in my personal endeavours that I believe enhance who I am and what I believe as a teacher. KSA connections
