This unit starts with students observing architecture from around the world. Students will discuss how the different forms of architecture relate to the environment of that area. The task is for students to design a building that can house a figure. The house should be made of materials from their area and should protect the figure from the elements of that environment.
Students are asked to collect items from nature that could be used as building material. I collected mud, sticks, rocks, and leaves. The second step was to use the materials to build a house for a small figure. I decided to build a house for two little wooden rabbits.
I started with a mud base and built up the frame of the house using rocks and mud.

I used sticks for the roof of the house.
Leaves were used for extra rain protection as well as camouflage to protect the bunnies from predators.
The bunnies are enjoying their new home.
